SASSO ROSSO

The concert march “Sasso Rosso” is dedicated to the corpo bandistico of the same name from Dimaro in Val di Sole, which takes its name from the striking Sasso Rosso mountain that rises impressively behind the village.
The work opens with an energetic yet slightly playful theme. Clear lines and distinctive accents create a sense of departure and forward movement. Dynamic contrasts and brief dialogical passages between the sections add vitality and give the march its compelling momentum.
In the trio, the tone color changes noticeably: the tempo feels more relaxed, and a broad, expansive melody unfolds. This theme conveys a sense of belonging and community—qualities embodied by a village band. The melodic line is shaped in a cantabile style, with gentle arcs of tension that allow room for expression and tonal nuance.
In the final section, the energy and brilliance of the opening return. The march concludes with a sense of tonal unity and resolution.

Overall, “Sasso Rosso” combines traditional march structure with melodic expressiveness. The work pays tribute both to the symbolic presence of the mountain in the landscape and to the cultural significance of the Dimaro band, creating a resonant homage to nature, community, and regional identity.
